I am on my knees, lying with my face touching the dirt that splits in two directions—back to You and the unknown direction my emotions lead. I finally look up, taking in the options—weighing my burden on either path. The logs, rocks, puddles, streams, and branches on the path back to You grow bigger and more daunting as I stare down the path. I turn to look at the path of my desires and see the obstacles grow smaller and eventually seem to disappear. How can I reconcile this? I know which path I should take, but the obstructions cause me to hesitate. I picture myself running down the path of my desires, the clear, uninhibited soil that is soft and forgiving on my feet—stop. The image ends, cut off and offering no more insight. I close my eyes, inhale, and take the first step.
“Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.” ~ 1 Peter 1:13
